So the weather here went from the low 80’s at the end of September straight into the freakin’ low 50’s. This makes me stabby because my favorite part about this time of year is the mild temperatures that allow for long walks on the trails. Packing up the kids at 9am and not having to worry about applying buckets of sunscreen while we explore the outdoors, picking up every conceivable color and shape of leaf, observing how the faded green spot we passed a few days before has exploded with color, stretching our legs and walking happy footstep, after happy footstep over the hardening fall ground and not coming back until lunchtime.
The plummet from humid heat to November conditions has put a wrench in our usual plans (and also given us a crap!tastic! cold!) but the clouds lifted today, the rain stopped and our noses stopped running so we went out tonight and enjoyed the fall weather we’ve been missing so much. Happy fall!
Edited to add: that my husband thought Rowan was staring at, touching and then triumphantly holding up, a piece of shit (yeah, literally. Shit. Like from a dog) so I thought I better add that it is a MUSHROOM. Rowan has been obsessed with them all summer and with all the rain we’ve had the last week the trail was chock full of them and she went to her happy place, shrieking !OMFG MUSHROOM! every 10 seconds (OK maybe not the F in OMFG, but really she may as well have).
